Spalted Pear Cooking Spoon #2

Price $30 with free shipping in the continental US.

I ship using USPS Ground, which is the least expensive option that included a tracking number.  If you prefer Priority Mail or another shipping option, international shipping or would like to combine shipping on multiple items to save a little money, please email me at judson@judsoncarroll.com

This piece of Pear has a very interesting grain pattern.  Without the spalting, you could barely see it.  As the turkey tail mushroom colonizes a tree, it caramelizes the sugars int he wood.  This is what gives spalted wood such striking colors.

I was especially impressed by the way the grain seems to spiral around the handle.

What makes carving spalted wood so interesting is that you never know what you will find once you split a log.  It may be anything from just lightly colored to wild, almost tie-dyed, type patterns like this!

I think whoever buys this this will enjoy using it.  As always, my woodwork is sustainably sourced from trees that are storm damaged or that must be thinned. Each piece is entirely hand made in the ancient greenwood tradition. I use only a hand saw, a small axe and knives. These are heirloom quality spoons that, if properly cared for, will last for generations.
