Eating Spoon #9

I ship using USPS Ground, which is the least expensive option that included a tracking number.  If you prefer Priority Mail or another shipping option, international shipping or would like to combine shipping on multiple items to save a little money, please email me at  judson@judsoncarroll.com This is a strong, sturdy eating spoon that is not too heavy for the kitchen but would also make for a nice backpacker's spoon. It has very nice lines and a wide enough handle that you could customize it with initials or a design of your own. I think whoever buys this one will enjoy using it.  It is sealed with Walnut Oil.  As always, my woodwork is sustainably sourced from trees that are storm damaged or that must be thinned. Each piece is entirely hand made in the ancient greenwood tradition. I use only a hand saw, a small axe and knives. Each piece comes with a handwritten, numbered and signed document. I decided the first piece of the Birch I carved would be one of my own favorite designs.  It is based on traditional Scandanavian cooking spoons, or "open ladles," but I modified my design specifically for stirring a roux.  Generally, we use a flat edged wooden spatula, with sharp edges, to stir roux so it can get into all o

It has some nice color on the bowl.  The lines are graceful and it really feels nice in the hand. I think every cook should have one of these.  I actually try to make the bowl thin enough that sunlight can show through, so the choice of wood is essential.  This is American Holly, which is very strong and tightly grained.  It is sealed with Walnut Oil.   As always, my woodwork is sustainably sourced from trees that are storm damag

Like the others, this spoon is carved out of American Holly and is very tough.  I had an idea that I should carve a few for folks whose hands might be a bit more normal than my massive meat hooks... perhaps even feminine. With that in mind though, it occurred to me that ladies often like to decorate an item - to make it their own.  So, I left the handle wide and smooth.  If you are looking for a spoon to mark with your individua

The pointed spoons are good for getting into the corners of the pot.   A spoon like this is what I reach for when cooking jambalaya or other rice dishes, lentil stew and specially grits but, of course, it has many uses. The spoon feels good in the hand.  It is extremely smooth with graceful lines that really display the ultra-fine grain of American Holly.  After sanding and sealing with walnut oil, the wood feels not only solid but almost satiny.

Most folks only had enough wood spoons for their family.  In fact, when a young man met the lady he intended to marry, he would carve a spoon for her and present it as a gift, showing his intentions.  He would then carve a spoon for each of their children.  So, if you were invited to supper, you were
