Spalted Bird Scoop

Price $25 with free shipping in the continental US.

I am very pleased with this pretty scoop.  I have just a few small pieces of spalted Birch left, so I figured I would carve some coffee, salt, sugar or spice scoops.

I carved it into a bird shape.  I think it looks like a bluebird.  The spalted grain of the wood is really remarkable.

It feels very comfortable in the hand, and is about a two tablespoon capacity.  I love to use scoops in cooking.  I have several that Use to pre measure herbs and spices, salt and sugar. into before I begin.  They are very easy to grab and convenient for adding ingredients to a dish.  They never need washing - I just wipe them out if needed. This is a system called "mise en place" - having everything measures, portioned and at hand, and it makes cooking easier, faster and more enjoyable.  But, this would also make a nice coffee scoop if that is more your style.

I think whoever buys this this will enjoy using it.  As always, my woodwork is sustainably sourced from trees that are storm damaged or that must be thinned. Each piece is entirely hand made in the ancient greenwood tradition. I use only a hand saw, a small axe and knives. These are heirloom quality spoons that, if properly cared for, will last for generations.
